30 Days should make one Pay

Fredrick Femi Robinson

Published June 21, 2011

Fellow Nigerians, my name is Femi Robinson. I am an actor but that does not make me a beggar. I was educated to obey the law and to speak the truth no matter whose ox is gored. If what I am about to say would help change the nation, I have no regrets. When I was young my Principal told my father I could lead a revolution. That was why he discouraged me fro joining the army. Now I realize my principal was right. So many Nigerian workers have died because nobody has come out to speak for them. If I suddenly drop dead like some great ones have done then you do not need to carry out so many investigations to know why. I will be leaving enough evidence and documents behind in form of my plays and write ups to prove that we have created a system which make it possible for people in power to do what they like with our hard earned money. It is time to lead that revolution to destroy the system. Why can’t Governments pay the minimum workers pay? They want us to beg them before paying us the money we worked for to maintain our family even at old age. I have asked God’s strength to help me expose them. If they can do this to me, what would they not do to lesser artists and workers in this country? You will be shocked to know that I have been unable to buy my medication and maintain proper diet because some people may have spent the money I worked for.

They now give it to me in piece meals. Nigerian workers should ask each other why they are pinning away while some people are growing fat and riding in luxurious bullet proof cars. Are these people really human? While they claim the can not pay N18, 000 they are planning to increase the take home pay of elected officers. What I am going through is what every Nigerian worker and contractor is going through and we have all accepted it as the norm. Let us begin by exposing these people no matter who they are. If we are paid our salary or money as and when due why should we go borrowing? In the days of our father, 30 days make one pay. Please join me in my campaign not only to get my money paid but to expose one of the major causes of corruption in Nigeria. Let us begin to say no to them. Each month the Federal Government publishes the allocations paid to states and Local Government. If the Federal Government believes the allocations should pay worker’s salary why deduct from it, to fund free education for the children whose father’s you are depriving monthly salaries? Workers and contractors are not beggars. Let’s make sure that we insist that 30 days makes a minimum pay approved by the Federal Government. Governors must begin to cut their dress according to their cloth after deducting salaries and wages. Please Let the revolution begin.
