Aregbesola's Ile-Ife Re-election Flag-off rattles oppositions "It's a choice between light and darkness" - Comrade Biyi Odunlade

The Mega-Rally called by the All Progressives Party, APC marking the beginning of Governor Rauf Aregbesola's August 9th re-election bid penultimate Tuesday has rattled the Peoples Democratic Party to its foundation. The Mega-Rally which was held in Ile-Ife, the home town of the PDP standard bearer, Senator Iyola Omisore drew hundreds of thousands of the APC party faithful across state. It was one of the heaviest crowd Ile-Ife has witnessed in recent times as vehicular activities was grounded for several hours.

The opposition party, the PDP boldly attested to the mammoth crowd as monumental, but come short of calling it: "boastful on failure with Lagos crowd". The PDP chairman in the state, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa, said Aregbesola was only being boastful on failure with his rented Lagos crowd, saying his party would never mobilise crowd for any of its campaign in the state.

But a check on the streets, the closed shops and Markets places didn't support Alhaji Ganiyu's claims that the crowd were rented from Lagos or else. Many indigenes and non indigenes alike who are resident in Ile-Ife disagreed sharply with the PDP chair, saying he has no statistics of the people leaving in Ile-Ife to support his claims. Mr Chinedu Kenneth, who deals in electronic and has leaved in for about 27, long before the state was created said he "left his shop to catch a glimpse of the actualiser who has turned the major streets and schools in Ile-Ife to some admirable."

"I have leaved in this town for about 27 years, long before Osun State was created and I have never seen development of any kind nearer what Governor Rauf Aregbesola has wrought in Osun state. I have satellite stores in Osogbo, Ilesa and Ila Orogun and the story is the same. I can only urge everyone who appreciates good governance to ensure the return of the governor for a second term so as to consolidate and complete all other projects he has started".

Elder Olasunkanmi Idowu who is retiring from the state government corroborated Mr Chinedu's sentiments and asserted that it is only the enemies of development that wouldn't wish continuity for a performing governor as Rauf Aregbesola who has combined uncommon courage, accountability, consistency and actual development in governance of the state.

"We have had governors before Aregbesola became one. They have all shouted no money, no money no money. The question is where Aregbesola getting the money he is using to development the state? I don't if he borrowed money to develop the Osun State as alleged by the opposition parties, especially the PDP, after the most powerful country in the world, the United States of America is indebted to the tone of $5.8 trillion dollars, both internal and external debt put together."

Governor Rauf Aregbesola himself has harps on his personal credential of all round development as a bases for his re-election, saying it is an opportunity for the people of the state to chose between remaining in the state of squalor as it was before he assumed office or remained forward looking and re-elect him for a second term. He campaign, hinged his re-election bid on the need to entrench good and responsive governance in the state. He also said his anticipated victory at the August 9 gubernatorial poll would allegedly nail the coffin of the PDP in attempting to govern Osun, adding that by his victory, the opposition would never contemplate nearing polling booth to seek votes from the electorate.

Aregbesola, who is the standard-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the campaign held on the field of Government Technical College, Ilode, Ile Ife, said “APC is unstoppable in Osun.” According to him, “we have the blessing of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade. I am seeking re-election to entrench good and responsive governance in this state. In 2007 and 2011, five persons were brutally killed in Ile-Ife. We are dedicating today’s re-election to their blessed memories.

“By the time we finish 2014 election, none of the opposition would come near polling booths again, because they would be roundly defeated. We have constructed 50.7 kilometres of road in Ife senatorial district alongside other projects capable of impacting positively on the masses.” Expressing optimism that he would convincingly win in the election, the governor said quantum of visible achievements recorded by his administration within the space of almost four years were enough credentials to guarantee victory for the APC at the poll.

This line was echoed more keenly by Comrade Biyi Odunlade who is from Ife Central Local government. Comrade Odunlade told reporters at the rally ground that the election of August 9th would mark the beginning of an end to PDP in the South West and perhaps, the entire country. He was of the view that a political party that has score A1 on corruption and F9 development politics in the last 15 years of the nation's democratic experience deserves nothing more than outright rejection by the people.

"You are all living witnesses to the pillaging of the nation's economy by the PDP Administrations at the centre across and wherever they governed. We will be entrenching politics of decay or politics of underdevelopment if we allowed such rudderless political party like the PDP to asserts its foothold in the South West that has been known over several decades for its politics of progressivism, welfarism, egalitarianism and populism.

"The people of Ile-Ife in the entire four local government councils will adequately punish the PDP and rewards the APC with their votes. This will serve as deterrents to the bloodlust politicians in the PDP who glamourised their ability to inflict untoward injuries, maim and kill those who are opposed to their riotous politics of death and primitive acquisitions of the people's wealth.

"August 9th will be a day of reckoning for the PDP for taking the people for a roller-coastering ride through sharply winding trestle that was terminated by an APC realistic governance of Governor Rauf Aregbesola. The people of Osun will chose between light and darkness on that day and it will be the last of politics of brigandage in the Osun and the South West", Comrade Odunlade said.

In truth, the PDP has nothing to show for the seven and half years it governed the state. The election, without doubts will ultimately enacts the politics of old western region, as it was between UPN and NPN. Aside that, the people of Osun have to truly chose between suppositions and actualities, between promises made and promises kept, between physical infrastructure development and the proposed ones, and between politics of blood shed and Omoluabi politics. This is the distinction.

And this is where the strength of the incumbent governor of the state lies. Governor Aregbesola has touched the lives of virtually everyone in the state in less than four years in office. Grounded in the philosophy of politics of concrete development over the years as a result of his believes in Awoism and penchant for development of humanity society, governor Aregbesola finds himself a familiar terrain, unlike his opponent in the PDP whose only credential is his ability disgrace and elder statesman like Chief Bola Ige in the Palace of Onni of Ife.

As the days, weeks and months gradually pave the way for the deal day one is but wonders what really floats across the thoughts of the major contenders in the race and what the electorate think of them. This election will yet mark a turning point for a people who - over half a century - have remained consistent, and will reaffirms the statement that it is easier to govern over a civilised society than primitive lots.
